Background:

Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is an Indigenous Government representing Métis citizens in Ontario. The MNO signed a monumental agreement known as the MGRSA or Self-Government Agreement in 2019. This agreement is the first time the Government of Canada recognized that Métis citizens and communities hold the inherent right to self-government and self-determination.

Problem:

Citizens feel unsure of what Self-Government is and how to approach it.

Solution:

Define the visual identity of Métis Self-Government and create approachable information to engage with citizens.

Logo Design

This logo combines the two symbols of a sash and a lobstick. For some background information,

  • Métis used the sash as a colourful and festive item of clothing, and it is an important tool historically worn by Métis voyageurs.
  • A lobstick was a tree stripped of its lower branches used for navigation by Métis along the waterways.

The intention is for the lobstick to be stitched and woven into the sash. This imagery was selected as it represents elements of our history that guide us into our future of self-government.

Infinity Voyageur Guide

I created a mascot made out of the infinity sign to share facts and info!

Explainer Video

This explainer video snippet was drafted, proposed, and produced by me. It was a great motion graphics learning opportunity for me!

Christmas Card

This Christmas card was designed to extend warm wishes for the holiday and to invite citizens to gather around the table to share their aspirations for self-governance in the upcoming year.

The content above was subject to change and does not reflect the MNO. Projects were created with collaboration from the Self-Government team. The Infinity guide is inspired by the illustration work of Jeff Wilson.
